Dricus du Plessis scored an impressive submission victory over Israel Adesanya in the main event of UFC 305 at RAC Arena on Saturday in Perth, Australia, to retain his middleweight championship. Adesanya was hurting du Plessis to the body and was seemingly on the way to a win when du Plessis turned the fight around in an instant in the fourth and won with a rear-naked choke.
But when we look back on history, it's going to be the inept judging in the Jairzinho Rozenstruk-Tai Tuivasa fight that we remember most. Rozenstruik won a split decision victory because of the incompetence of Howie Booth, who managed to score the bout 30-27 for Tuivasa. But fellow judge Charlie Keech, who had it 29-28 for Rozenstruik, should also come under fire because he scored the first round for Tuivasa. As they say, there's absolutely no way.
I break down the fight and call for a public investigation in the scoring of Booth and Keech, because public confidence in the integrity of the officials is paramount for the sport's continued success.
I also discuss du Plessis' win; Kai Kara-France's surprising KO victory over Steve Erceg; Dan Hooker's all-heart victory over Mateusz Gamrot and Carlos Prates' star turn.
