The Fighting Nerds are quickly becoming one of the great fight teams in mixed martial arts. But no matter what they do, it's going to be hard to top what Mauricio Ruffy did to King Green on Saturday in the main card opener of UFC 313 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Ruffy scored one of the greatest KOs in UFC history, feinting a jab and then throwing a spinning wheel kick with his right leg. He hit Green square, directly about the ear, and Green went down face-first. Ruffy stood and watched as referee Chris Tognoni jumped in at 2:07 to stop it.
It was the sixth knockout via wheel kick in UFC history.
Ruffy did not waste the moment, either, campaigning for a few extra bucks.
"You know, I've always wondered what it would take for a single fighter to get two bonuses in one night," Ruffy said. "Maybe that will pressure Dana (White), Hunter (Campbell) and Sean Shelby to give me maybe two bonuses for tonight."
After earning his third win in as many UFC fights, Ruffy said he wanted to face Beneil Dariush next. Dariush is a veteran, but after wins over Jamie Mullarkey, James Llontop and Green, it's no guarantee Dariush will be the favorite if that bout is made.
